| Description | This song was made for a 2009 Film called “Let him Be” that followed a young film student who believed he found John Lennon alive in Ontario, Canada. The song references the night that John Lennon was killed, and is written and preformed by Lennon impersonator Mark Staycer. The lyrics coincide with the film’s plot, starting with the first verse: Papers talk about me sure, lies And the secrets that lie within Check the stories from the boys in blue It’s a must that you meet them The first verse references that the news and the papers are lying about Lennon’s death, and the truth is hiding somewhere, and the “boys in blue” of course refer to the responding officers on the scene. The chorus further alludes to John being alive, Staycer sings: Yeah, there’s talk about all my life The night the apple took the bite I was there (x4) “The night the apple took the bite” Refers to New York and the big apple, and the fact that they “took the bite”, or bait to Lennon’s death. Staycer then makes the remark “I was there” as Staycer’s character in the movie was actually present, as he was John. If I was you and you were me My Catcher in the Rye You’re just a thief without a life You can run but I can’t hide This refers to Sarah, a fictional daughter of Lennon and Catcher in the Rye, a book Lennon’s real character claimed to be his reasoning for killing Lennon. Mark Staycer performed the song during the film’s premier and during the trailer for the movie, and his impression and likeness to Lennon, combined with real Lennon voice tracks sampled for the song has led internet conspiracy theorists to think that Staycer is actually Lennon, although this is most likely not true. |
