Description“First Grade” is a song by singer Max Leone, released on January 17th, 2020. The song was written and recorded in one day. In an interview with Alt Citizen, he describe the song as:

“The song is meant to deal with both the beauty of accepting someone but also the darker feeling of not wanting to take a chance. The first thing we (Luke Niccoli and I) talked about in the session when we wrote ‘First Grade’ was the duality of isolation, which is both a loneliness and a sort of empowering feeling of being fully in control of yourself. Or at least thinking you are in control.”
Lyrics[Verse 1]
I went to bed late last night (Last night)
Hit me with your number, I don't call back
Not 'cause I don't have the time (The time)
You know people only want what they can't have

[Pre-Chorus]
It's not my fault
I feel like I'm never home
And I don't know what's real
But I'm getting closer
[Chorus]
I think about working out
Something with someone like you (Someone like you)
I've looked around
Never found something or someone like you (Someone like you, like you)
And I've been all inside my head
When I could be with you instead (Instead)
I think about working out
Something with someone like you (Someone like you)

[Verse 2]
Hard to get it out of my mind (Mind)
And I just laugh it off like it's okay
But I don't wanna take my time (My time)
'Cause I've been taking time since the first grade

[Pre-Chorus]
It's not my fault
I feel like I'm all alone
And I don't know what's real
But I'm getting older

[Chorus]
I think about working out
Something with someone like you (Someone like you)
I've looked around
Never found something or someone like you (Someone like you, like you)
And I've been all inside my head
When I could be with you instead (Instead)
I think about working out
Something with someone like you (Someone like you)
