Description“The Sky Is Broken” is the seventeenth track of American musician Moby’s studio album Play, released on May 17, 1999 through V2 Records.

It has a similar structure to “If Things Were Perfect”, as Moby uses an icy spoken word to deliver his message, even though the beat in the background is rather lean: the drums, sampled from a Creedence Clearwater Revival’s classic track, give a bit of rhythm, while the deep Oberheim synth line and a couple of piano notes provide the song with the essential melody. As “The Sky Is Broken” comes to the end, some melancholic strings are added.
Thus, a generally dark atmosphere is created, and the anguished Moby’s lyrics, which deal with a sense of imminent apocalypse to be cancelled by the sound of his lover’s voice, fit perfectly.

The fans of the series “X-Files” will recognize this song immediately, as well as the next one on the album…
Lyrics[Verse 1]
See the storm is broken
In the middle of the night
Nothing left here for me
It's washed away
The rain pushes
The buildings aside
The sky turns black
The sky
Wash it far
Push it out to sea
There's nothing left here
For me
I watch it lift up to the sky
I watch it crush me
And then I die
[Verse 2]
Speak to me, baby
In the middle of the night
Pull your mouth close to mine
I can see the wind coming down
Like black night
So speak to me
Like the winds outside
It's broken up
Pushing us
Hear the rain fall
See the wind come to my eyes
See the storm broken
Now nothing
Speak to me, baby
In the middle of the night
Speak to me
Hold your mouth to mine
Because the sky is breaking
It's deeper than love
I know the way you feel
Like the rains outside
Speak to meYou might also like
