DescriptionThis cut is taken from Paul Weller’s ‘experimental’ 2010 effort ‘Wake Up The Nation’. Sometimes, calling an artist’s work ‘experimental’ can be a cliche. That would be a mistake here.

Foxton and Weller return to give us the spiritual successor to the 1977 classic ‘London Traffic’. But, here they are not just repeating the trick. The words float in and out, the vocals build and build, the lyrics are in your face. If ‘London Traffic’ was a wake up call, ‘Fast Car / Slow Traffic’ is an angry phone-in. And these words should be shouted on every LBC radio show. 30 years later and still nothings been done on the urban congestion issue, you can feel the resentment in the song.

Later, the song became a call to arms for musicians fed up with road congestion, with Devlin and Primal Scream both providing their own takes on the tune. Who says political music doesn’t make a difference?

This is one of only a select few pieces of 21st Century work by Brucey. The bass pioneer showed he hadn’t lost his touch at crafting a groovy bassline. And I’m sure he’s proud of Weller’s words, no longer is he a lone voice speaking against the preposterous state of our roads and highways in music.
LyricsSlow traffic, slow traffic
Slow traffic, slow traffic
Slow traffic, slow traffic
Slow traffic, slow traffic
Slow traffic, slow traffic

Zoomin' in and out
Of the slow traffic mumble
Tryin' to make the lights
Get me out of the jungle

It's been a long day
And my head's all gone
I'm tryin' to make the bridge
'Fore the sun goes down

Slow traffic, slow traffic
Slow traffic, slow traffic
Slow traffic, slow traffic
Slow traffic, slow traffic

Zoomin' in and out
Of the slow traffic mumble
Tryin' to make the lights
Get me out of the jungle
