Exploration B
Title | Exploration B |
---|---|
Artist | Poe |
Album | Haunted |
Release Date | 2000-10-31 |
Description | “Exploration B” opens Poe’s sophomore album, Haunted, with a lament, a notification of her father’s passing, and thereby introduces the central theme of the album: Poe is examining her relationship with her father, in life and in death. “Exploration B” also puts the connection between the album and Poe’s brother Mark Z. Danielewski’s novel House of Leaves front and center in two ways: the title is a clear reference to the exploration of the titular house from Danielewski’s novel, and the sounds in the background, the echoes, are a reference to the rumbles and roars of the house. As such, the fact that Poe called the song Exploration B can be seen as her way of saying she is responding to the same thing that inspired House of Leaves, which was released earlier in the same year, but from another perspective. She’s exploring the loss of her father by way of her own art. |
